Chris Brown Disses Drake On Freestyle, Shouts Out Lil Wayne

30 Jun

Chris Brown released a lyrical attack on Drake today over Chief Keef’s "I Don’t Like" beat. Chris’ remix features several jabs at Drake, his music, appearance and reputation — although Brown commends Drake’s Young Money counterparts Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj–in lyrics: "One on one, what you scared bruh …Them eyebrows, man them sh–ts is Yikes!" and "OVO you overdose, YOLO no, I live twice!"

Chris briefly references the alleged June 14 melee between him and members of Drizzy crew at NYC’s W.i.P. nightclub, saying "They throwing bottles/I’m throwing models."

It’s still unclear what sparked that altercation between the two camps. MTV News reported that a fight broke out at trendy W.i.P. nightclub in NYC in which bottles were allegedly thrown. A photo posted on Brown’s Instagram showing the singer sporting a bloody gash on his chin quickly made its rounds after the incident. The singer’s bodyguard also sustained a head injury as did NBA star Tony Parker, Australian tourist Hollie C. and two more people. No arrests have been made.

Rick Ross ‘Knows’ Meek Mill Wasn’t Involved In Chris Brown/ Drake Brawl

Drake’s camp refuted claims that the "Headlines" rapper was involved in the incident. "Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.I.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began," his rep told TMZ. "[Drake] did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property."

Last week Maybach Music rapper Meek Mill who was also in attendance spoke out on the incident telling RapFix Live he had no involvement in the incident.

"I don’t really be having those controversies like that, man. It’s just that the more hotter you get, they start talkin’," Mill said.

Drake and Brown have been the subject of tabloid rumors of late, as buzz built that the two were fighting over singer Rihanna. Brown’s long-term relationship with the superstar famously exploded after he assaulted her in 2009, but they continued to be linked to one another. Drake has spoken several times that he and Rihanna are close, and allegedly had a brief fling, and the pair were spotted out together as recently as Memorial Day weekend in Miami.

Rick Ross Says Self Made, Vol. 2 ‘Sounds Straight-Up Organic’

30 Jun

Rick Ross has been raising the bar for himself with each project since his 2006 debut, Port of Miami. Rozay’s most-recent solo album, 2010’s Teflon Don, is arguably his best, and for his Maybach Music Group, the Bawse encourages the same growth.

On Tuesday, Ross and his MMG crew dropped Self Made, Vol. 2, 13 months after they released the first volume. If Rozay had to pick a favorite, he said he’d pick the latest — after all, it is all about progression.

"Of course, the difference first and foremost is the sound, the music. When we released Self Made, Vol. 1, we had just really closed our deal. We pretty much did it in two weeks, just sitting around in the studio, just having fun, and we recorded it," Ross shared on Wednesday’s (June 27) "RapFix Live."

When MMG released the first Self Made in May 2011, Ross had only secured his label deal with Warner Music Group three months prior, but he, Wale and Meek Mill put it together quickly. This time out, the Bawse expanded his roster, giving Stalley more shine and adding French Montana and former B2K frontman Omarion to the fold.

"This project here, everybody was pretty much in a different position. It’s been a big difference status-wise from the first year [’til] now," Ross explained. "Everybody was basically on tour when we first started this process. We stayed in communication a little more, and I think the music itself it sounds straight up organic, like it was meant to be, from the choruses, the concepts, the titles to the sequencing."

Rozay doesn’t discount Self Made, Vol. 1, however; he likens it to a seed. Aside from the expanded roster, Ross decided to add a ton of features to the new album as well. T.I., Nas, Bun B, T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa and Kendrick Lamar all appear. "I feel like it’s the best of the best, from the new guys to the veterans," Ross said.

What is your favorite song from Self Made, Vol.2? Let us know in the comments!

What’s One Direction’s Favorite U.S. City So Far?

30 Jun

One Direction have been taking their boy band antics across the States since May for their first-ever American headlining tour. And, with only days left on the massive Up All Night jaunt, 1D-er Niall Horan, recalled with MTV News the "absolutely nuts" time they’ve had.

"It’s been, as you can see clearly, it’s been absolutely nuts. We’re still trying to get out head around it," he said, hours before hitting the stage in Charlotte. "It’s been crazy. We’ve had a lot of fun … we’re doing these things called sheds, so they’re outside and inside. There are like 20,000 people on an outdoor gig and they’re really good to do. They’re really fun. It’s really warm outside and the crowds, they’re amazing."

With fans doing anything they can to get the guys’ attention while they’re on stage (including throwing bras at them) Niall says that the last few shows have included far fewer undergarments being tossed at the stage.

"They’ve kind of toned it down a little bit. It was worse. Now it’s kind of iPhones and keys, which are kind of dangerous.

"When we were in New York, we were on our day off and me and Liam [Payne] was going down the street with one of our security guards and we got absolutely mobbed by like 600 people in Times Square," he said. "I thought ‘There is literally not one place I can walk down the street.’ "

But, it’s not just screaming girls who are turning out to see the guys. Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell tweeted about attending the 1D show in Atlanta, a show that just happened to be one of Niall’s favorites (or at least the loudest). "We didn’t have a clue what we were singing. We couldn’t hear anything," he said. "We’re very lucky we’ve got amazing crowds. We never have a bad crowd. We’re very lucky we kind of get the adrenaline rush off them."

While Atlanta may have been the rowdiest show, New Jersey remains Niall’s favorite for the opposite reason. "Harry [Styles] got the crowd to take their phones and lights out of their pocket and we turned off the lights so you couldn’t see the crowd and all you could see are the lights swaying," he said. "I think that was a special night cause we thought it’s all very high-energy, but when the show is taken down like a somber level it’s quite nice."

O Music Awards Are Live Now!

30 Jun

And they’re off! This year’s O Music Awards have officially begun with a very ambitious and action-packed 24-hour live stream.

The digitally driven event that celebrates and honors artists, fans and innovators impacting digital-music culture will aim to help rockers the Flaming Lips break the Guinness World Record for the most concerts performed in multiple cities in a 24-hour time period.

This extra-special and possible record-breaking event will unfold via a historic bus ride through the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of rock and roll. The Lips have just boarded their tricked-out bus, aptly named Endeavor, in Memphis and will be zigzagging across the region in attempt to break Jay-Z’s Guinness World Record title for Most Live Concerts In 24 Hours (Multiple Cities) by hitting a total of eight cities to end in New Orleans.

The band will travel to each new location just as the opening band is finishing its set, where they’ll perform a mini-set before moving on to the next location. The Lips will be joined by "Jackass" and "Wildboyz" star Chris Pontius, Jackson Browne, Neon Trees, Karmin, MNDR and a slew of additional artists.

Fans at home can watch the entire journey from any screen and, naturally, interact, influence and play a part in the voyage as the band heads toward the final destination. The O Music Awards will be broadcast on MTV, VH1 and CMT and live-stream at OMusicAwards.com.

The O Music Awards ceremony will give out 24 awards, one for each hour of the festival. Categories that artists are vying to win include Must Follow Artist on Twitter, Best Online Concert Experience, Most Adorable Viral Star, Fan Army FTW, Best Music App and Digital Genius Award.

Exclusive: Lucy Hale Is Going Country On First Album

30 Jun

"Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale is expanding her horizons beyond her successful acting career and spreading her wings to (hopefully) soar into an equally successful music career.

The multitalented 23-year-old recently inked a recording deal with Hollywood Records, which is the same label that brought us the chart-topping vocal stylings of Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

MTV News was lucky enough to sit down with Hale recently for an exclusive chat about how she came to land a recording contract with Hollywood Records and what plans she has for her first album.

"Some people know, some people don’t know: I grew up performing, I grew up singing, and I never knew which route I was going to take," said Hale, who first showcased her singing skills on the talent competition "American Juniors" in 2003. "Acting took off for a while and I booked [‘Pretty Little Liars’], and I did a movie last year, ‘Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song,’ and I played a singer, and so that’s sort of how Hollywood [Records heard me]."

Hale then landed a meeting with Hollywood Records head Ken Bunt, who was eager to work with her and wanted to make the music Hale was most passionate about.

"I told him [I wanted to sing] country, so I’m going to do a country/pop album, and I couldn’t be more excited," she said. "I grew up in Tennessee, so that’s always been my heart and soul. It’s hard to come across a true country fan in L.A., but it’s true that the fans are so loyal, once you’re in their circle, you’re in for your entire career. It just really speaks to me. Country music has so much soul and is so heartfelt. I think it’s a perfect fit for me. I think it will surprise people."

So which country singers does Hale look to for inspiration?

"I love all [kinds of country artists], but comparing what my sound would be like? A Taylor Swift/ Carrie Underwood-ish hybrid? Obviously, I would kill to have their music careers," she said. "I’m not saying I will have that career, but sound-wise, I would say it’s closest to that."

Look for Hale’s first country album to hit the airwaves sometime next year.

EDM Stars Shout Out ‘Role Models’ Swedish House Mafia

30 Jun

The fond farewells continue to pour in since news hit this past weekend that Swedish House Mafia — the "holy trinity of house" — will soon disband.

"It’s obviously very sad news," fellow Swede Avicii told MTV News in a written statement on Tuesday. The producer (a.k.a. Tim Bergling) joins the global electronic dance music community, including David Guetta, Zedd, Hardwell and many more, in lamenting the end of SHM, who will say goodbye with a final tour.

The three Swedes — Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello — were veteran electronic music producers on their own when they came together in 2008 to form Swedish House Mafia. They went on to achieve what Tiësto once described to MTV Newsas "rock-star" status, as they released monster singles (like Grammy-nominated "Save the World") and staged massive stadium performances around the globe.

Having gained recognition as one of EDM’s biggest brands, at a time when dance music has truly gone pop in the States, SHM dropped a bomb on Saturday with their announcement. Confirming via their website that they plan to part ways after their upcoming tour, SHM didn’t specify the reason for their decision. "Today we want to share with you that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved," the message read.

Over the years, SHM worked with young up-and-comers bound for EDM stardom: Calvin Harris , Thomas Gold, Dirty South, Max Vangeli & AN21, Afrojack, Junior Sanchez, Alesso. And those are just a fraction of the acts that have opened for the Swedes on their group or solo headlining shows. Through their influential record labels — Axwell’s Axtone, Angello’s Size and Ingrosso’s Refune — the trio pushed scores of artists and focused on taking the productions to the next level. Indeed, SHM not only raved and loved, they also inspired.

"They have always been role models to me," Avicii said. "They’re all amazing producers and DJs and have been a big part of me developing my sound and starting producing in the first place," Avicii continued. "They’ve played a big part in EDM’s quick rise the past couple years and have influenced thousands of producers like myself."

"Everything we have done to this day has been in large part due to their inspiration," Max Vangeli & AN21 recently told MTV News. "We have learned so much from the boys, from production to performance. They have always been leading the game and stayed innovative. It’s very sad to hear the news but sometimes leaving on top is for the best. All three of them are amazing guys with lots of talent, and the music will continue regardless."

As Swedish House Mafia wrap things up, they are planning to drop a new single, rumored to be titled "Don’t You Worry Child." The group will perform in London, Ibiza and Sweden, with a final leg of their farewell tour to be announced in August. Of course, some are still holding out hope that this goodbye won’t be forever.

"Hopefully, this is not the end," Avicii said. "And [I] hope they reunite later on in their careers!"

What do you think of SHM deciding to disband? Tell us in the comments!
