Eminem Taps Dr. Dre For New Album, Remembers Adam Yauch

2 Jul

Hip-hop heavyweight Eminem has revealed he’s currently back in the lab, knee-deep in crafting his upcoming eighth studio album. Speaking with DJ Whoo Kid on his Shade 45 radio show, Em gave an update on the progress of his next solo effort.

Saying he was still in the early stages of recording and the material has yet to take shape, the iconic rapper acknowledged he will go to his longtime collaborator Dr. Dre at some point in the process.

"Yeah, of course he’ll be involved," he said. "I usually get going and kind of start going a certain direction and just record what I’m feeling. Then I’ll go see Dre and fill in some of those pieces."

With no release date set, August looks to be a busy month for Em and his Shady Records enterprise. In addition to an Asian tour that will hit multiple countries, his label’s supergroup Slaughterhouse will drop their long-awaited Welcome to: Our House LP on August 28.

Eminem also commented on the death of the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch in the rare interview. "It’s really sad," he said. "It’s really a shame. The Beastie Boys mean so much to hip-hop."
